Next Meeting: April 14!

The Writers' Workshop of the Mountain Empire Creative Arts Council (MECAC) will be held on Tuesday evening, April 14 in the Community Room of the Pine Valley Library at 7:00 PM.

Anyone and everyone interested in learning more about the writing process and in giving and receiving written and oral feedback on their work is encouraged to attend. 

Bring 8-10 copies of 1-3 pages of your work, and we'll all do the same. This workshop is a gentle and safe place to explore our abilities as writers and to learn to hone our craft as a group.

Reminder: We will be hosting Dr.Dean Nelson, founder of the Journalism Department at Point Loma Nazarene University and author of 11 books, at an all-day writing seminar entitled Journaling:A Roadmap into Life on Saturday, April 18 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Pine Valley Bible Conference Center. Next Meeting: March 10!

The Mountain Empire Creative Arts Council's Writers' Workshop will meet on Tuesday evening, March 10 at 7:00 PM in the Community Room of the Pine Valley Library on Old Highway 80.

Please bring 6-8 copies of a couple of pages of your writing to share, and you will receive oral and written feedback. 

Everyone who enjoys the power of the written word is invited to attend.

Also, we have Dean Nelson's all-day Journaling Workshop coming up on April 18 at the Pine Valley Bible Conference Center. Please check with Susanne or Judith for more information.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, January 13!

Please join the writers of the Mountain Empire area (east of Alpine in San Diego County) for conversation and sharing of our writing. 

We hope to see you on Tuesday, January 13 at 7:00 PM in the Community Room of the Pine Valley Library (Old Highway 80, Pine Valley).


Bring 6-8 copies of 1-2 pages of your stories, poems, novels, plays, non-fiction, or anything else you happen to be working on, and we'll offer you oral and written feedback as we take turns sharing samples of our writing. 

Or if you'd like to participate and not share your writing, that's fine, too. No pressure. :) 

Everyone interested in the craft of writing is welcome to attend.

And in February, the Writer's Symposium by the Sea celebrates its 20th anniversary featuring poet and novelist Joyce Carol Oates (tickets are $15), among others. The exact dates are February 24-26, 2015, and other sessions will be meeting during the week of the symposium, including one featuring a PLNU classmate of mine, and there will also be a session on getting writing published. Next Meeting: Tuesday, December 9!

The Mountain Empire Creative Art Council's Writers' Workshop will be meeting on the second Tuesday of this month, December 9, in the Community Room of the Pine Valley Library at 7:00 PM.  

Everyone interested in writing is welcome to attend. We usually bring a page or two of our writing (bring 6-8 copies) to share and receive feedback. We're a gentle and encouraging group, so there's no need to be shy. :)

We had a nice turnout and a lovely time at the National Novel Writing Month's Write-In on November 22. We drank tea and coffee, chatted, and even did some writing! We'll try to schedule another Write-In for February. 

And we hope to reschedule the journaling workshop with Dean Nelson for mid-April. We'll let you know once we have a firm date. 

So snuggle up in a quilt before the fire, coffee or tea within ready reach, and write!!

Dean Nelson Event for November Has Been Canceled

We regret to inform you that the MECAC Writers Workshop scheduled for Saturday, November 15 has been canceled and will be rescheduled for late winter/early spring.

A more urgent event, a memorial service for a dear friend of Pine Valley and MECAC has priority at this time. We know that you will agree with our decision.

Susanne will return via "snail mail" all checks received for this event; they will be sent as soon as the Post Office reopens after Veteran's Day.

If you were a "maybe" on our list, this rescheduling will allow you to think ahead also.

This workshop with Dean Nelson will focus on an exciting, fulfilling concept and mode of writing, led by a very gifted professional writer. We look forward to seeing you in a few months!
