Next Meeting: May 12!

The next meeting of the Mountain Empire Creative Arts Council's Writers' Workshop will be Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00 PM in the Community Room of the Pine Valley Library.

As our numbers have been steadily increasing, I advise bringing 8-10 copies of your 2-3 pages of writing to share. Of course, you are welcome to just come to listen and offer feedback. Anyone interested in the art and craft of writing is encouraged to attend.

Author Pages on the Blog
Here on our blog, I have added separate author pages for those who have been attending our Tuesday night workshop meetings regularly. If you have not yet sent me your 350-500 word writing excerpt, links to any blog/website/published work(s), and a cover image and/or author photo of yourself, please e-mail them to me soon! Currently I have finished pages for Maureen, Linda, Judith, and myself if you'd like to see the contents of the finished pages.

Journaling Workshop
Our Journaling Workshop on April 18th was simply amazing. Many thanks, indeed, to Dean Nelson for kindly trekking up the mountain to share his writing wisdom and encouragement with us.

After the event, Judith wrote:

Dear fellow wordsmiths,

What a pleasure it was to welcome you into a day of fellowship and discovery on Saturday! Truly, the atmosphere was so delightful -- and insightful -- that I almost hated to face the 4:00 exodus. It was its own thing, an organic and fluid time that created mutual understanding and appreciation. That in itself is a "hope-for" that doesn't always happen. You are a great band of explorers!

The skills and sensitivity and humor of Dean Nelson was obviously the catalyst in creating a learning and sharing environment. We were truly fortunate that he enjoys coming out here for this purpose. Dean is a "pro" in every sense of the word, and equally or more important, he is a perceptive and warmhearted and intuitively wise human being. Our great thanks to him for the pertinent instruction and fun (yes!) and inspiration!

Susanne and I were of the opinion that this kind of gathering may well be viable as a twice-yearly "class." Growing together? We'll examine that concept, and will certainly welcome your input.

And finally, I know that Dean and Susanne and I will all concur in wishing you a new surge of creativity, and a steady awareness of your innate ability to "tell the story," and telling it in such a way that it becomes a testimony to your life and to all life. GO, GANG!!

Best to each of you,

Judith

April Is National Poetry Month
Yes, indeed! As spring showers (rare though they may be!) give birth to the glory of daffodils, lilac, and poppies here in the mountains, we also celebrate the birthing of the poetic spirit through National Poetry Month. The Academy of American Poets host a page for National Poetry Month chock full of ways to honor the poet in all of us. Be inspired by the poems and information on this site and perhaps write and share a new poem at our May meeting!

We very much hope to see many writers from the April 18 event attend future full-day workshops as well as our Tuesday night meetings.

Writing with you,
